What is Amatsu?
Amatsu is a gentle scientific effective therapy and self-maintenance programme. Its benefits include relief from a range of injuries and it also complements an active lifestyle in people of all ages.
For the most part Amatsu is carried out on a treatment couch and you are fully clothed. Each treatment lasts 30 – 40 minutes.
Amatsu utilises the body’s natural movements to bring about self-correction and to take away interferences of the normal healing process. Varied pressure is applied as the body is moved through a range of motion in order to realign ligaments, nerves and muscle systems.
TECHNIQUES USED IN AMATSU

*Massage usually included in a double i.e. one hour long session.
History
Amatsu Tatara means SkyHarbour, literally Divine Residence/God’s Port, and is an amalgamation of martial arts, medicine, philosophy, strategy and religion that has been practised in Japan for over 2000 years. Its principles and practices have recently been rediscovered in the West and clinically evaluated.
Margaret Brace is a 3rd generation practitioner, who has trained with direct disciples of Dr Masaaki Hatsumi, the head of the Amatsu tradition in Japan.
“The human being is the only creature that needs to be taught to move naturally” Dr Masaaki Hatsumi
After Amatsu
For the best results, please drink at least 1½ litres of water after your treatment. This will help to flush the toxins trapped in your muscular system. Having a warm bath or shower will also aid this process.
More specific suggestions will be made after your treatment as to how you can best maintain your vitality.
Together we can restore your wellbeing, with a little time and application.
